River Watch

Since the spillway was opened and river water started flowing into the lake, the levels seemed to have gone down some. A little minor seepage in some areas, but all in all we are dry here in the city. And today with  the gates opened into the Atchafalaya Basin, we'll likely stay dry.  Unfortunately, others will not be as fortunate.

With the river high, we walked to the levee yesterday to take a look.  As we were there, a big grain ship came under the railroad bridge going toward the bend.  I snapped a sequence of photos as the big ship struggles to make that sharp turn at the river's bend in the fast running water.

And here's the bend in the river

it was a cloudy misty rain yesterday...that's why the photos are so gray. The ship approaches the bend

Watch the next few frames as the fast current pushes the ship to the other shore

made it!
