Sunset Sail

Today is the reveal for the Fiberactions challenge "split complementary". Since it is a travel day for me and I'm posting from the airport, this will be fairly short.
I chose to work with a 5 color split with turquoise as my main color and red, orange-red, orange, yellow-orange, and orange-yellow as my complements. I also added black and white.

I used my own hand dyed cottons for the water and sky, white organza for the sun, pale turquoise lame for the sails, and solid black cotton for the boat hulls. I used Quilters Dream wool batting and Superior "Lava" threads in the sky and water and metallic silver in the sun.

I have to run, as my plane is boarding...but you should head over to Fiberactions and check the fabulous pieces from the other artists.

Progress

Well, I finished the applique on my Fiberactions quilt today, so it's ready to quilt!  Probably won't happen until Monday...we have a pretty full weekend.

My 2 quilts for the MQS auction are completely done; that means bound, sleeves on, labels on and suitably blinged!  Yeah, I know I made that word up :)

But a good feeling to be done. Photos of them tomorrow.

So.......what should my next show quilt be?

For tonight, I think I'll knit!

Moving On

With the Queen of the Nereids gone on her way to Kansas, it's time to start some new projects as well as getting back to some in progress.  First on the list is a new one. Today I began work on my newest Fiberactions piece.  As you may remember, all our work this round relates to color study, the theme for May is Split-Complementary.  Now  the split-complementary color scheme can be done with either 3 or 5 analogous colors  along with your complement.  I am using 5, and My chosen colors will likely come as no surprise to you.

Turquoise is my chosen complement, so my 5 analogous colors are:

Red, Red-Orange, Orange,Yellow -Orange, and Orange-Yellow.  And I added a touch of black and white.

Yeah, I know...really stepping out of my color box....not!  maybe next time :)
At any rate, I made good progress today.  Got all the pieces cut for my background; did the necessary piecing and applique and finished the background. The applique motifs are drawn, cut and fused ready to be stitched to the background tomorrow.

The reveal is not until the 15th, but here is a look at the fabrics I used.

Any guesses as to what the outcome will be?

Shipping Day!

Today  "Queen of the Nereids"  left with the UPS guy on her way to Kansas for MQS.

I'll be following her to MQS on May 15th and hope to see lots of my friends there!

Also today I shipped  the "Queen's" entry package off to Houston for the IQA jury process, so keep your fingers crossed!

Now it's back to work...got to bind and bling my 2 small auction quilts for MQS  and make my Fiberactions challenge piece that's also due on the 15th.  Guess I better go get busy!!
