Two Grouted and Done...

One more to go. And some paint touch up...

The last wall( the largest)will have to wait until I get back from Virginia.

While I'm away, in addition to taking care of my furbabies, hubby will continue with the exterior painting of the screened in porch, trim and the exterior doors. He started today and even after one coat, I love the new door color!  Also the workmen finished up all the new exterior siding and got the new lights installed.

And my camellias are blooming too!

One Done, One Started

The Mariners compass mosaic is done...grout and all.  I'm really pleased with the way it looks. Not bad for a first attempt at mosaic art :)

And I have gotten a good start on the kitchen backsplash.  Again, this is my first attempt at tile work.

And I think it's looking pretty awesome, even if I do say so myself!

Have a great night.

More Progress

Today's photos ....I finished tiling the mosaic over the bar, tomorrow I'll grout it.

I'm really pleased with the way this turned out; however tiling vertical surfaces up high reek havoc with your shoulders and neck!

Remember the chandelier makeover from this post?  Well here is the final result.

And my stained glass windows from Richard and Joyce are re-hung in the dining room

Finished dining room

Entry hall from the dining room

and another couple from the living room

Also tomorrow I start tiling the kitchen backsplash while Don paints the downstairs guest room and bath...it'll be a busy week!

And Some of the Kitchen...

Still have to tile the backsplash and paint the ceiling....but other than that, the kitchen is nearly done. This is the eating area of the kitchen...the fridge is a second one. There is another inside the "work triangle".

Tomorrow, more of the mosaic compass...

Happy Thanksgiving!

First, I hope each and every one of you have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving. Thank you for visiting me here on the web throughout the year.

We will be celebrating with some of the family here in town in just a couple hours.  But I thought I'd give you an update of the house progress.  In case you forgot, here's the living room before

And here is how it looks today

that photo is a little dark...here's another

Not completely finished yet, but getting close.  I just love the new floors!

And I'm working on a glass mosaic above the bar. I got the compass done today, tomorrow I'll do the water...then it'll be ready to grout

closer

More photos of the renovation progress tomorrow.

Have a great celebration!

Starting to Look Like My House!

The electrician is done...the new lighting looks great.

The granite is in, and it looks great...Mary will get a kick out of it, because it's brown.   I chose that slab because it reminded me of a surf etched beach.

Tomorrow morning, the flooring people get started laying the wood floors, and the folks start on the front and back of the outside of the house.

Since the countertops are in now, I can start my backsplash ; and my art mosaics above, on and below the bar.  I'm gonna be busy....

Photos soon....I promise :)

Slowly It Goes...

Reno continues. Good progress on the parts we are doing....lots of delays on some of the parts we had to hire out to be done.  Now the countertops, kitchen sink/faucet are more than 2 weeks overdue. The word today is they will be here to install on Monday...

The wood flooring is also behind schedule..latest date for that is they will begin on Tuesday...

The electrician, plumber and fireplace people have been great and on time; and the work they have done looks fabulous! The appliances arrived on time as did the new beds.

I am loving the way things are looking, but I sure HATE the process!!

Reno Progress

We've been plodding along slowly but surely with the house reno here.  Mostly so far has been about exterior and structural stuff.

But now we are getting the inside stuff done...slowly at first, but then I realized the holidays are just around the the corner...and the end of the year follows quickly, so we have ramped up into high gear!

After getting one estimate for painting the inside... of over $13,000 dollars...once I caught my breath, I decided we could do that...Actually hubby could do that with me supervising and touching up after him :)

He, being the good sport he is, agreed and he started this weekend.  Already, the change is huge and I can feel my spirits lighten with the addition of the colors!

Living room before...

notice everything is beige.

After painting started

Now the tray ceiling looks like it is neon...it is not. It is 2 shades darker than the wall color...the light tonight just wasn't good for getting true color..  And the beams are now a rich chocolate brown. The living room painting has been finished since I took this photo and I love it. My painter hubby did a great job... which means I just have a tiny bit of touch up to do.

The new wood floors will be installed the week of Nov 13th; the extra fridge, pantry, new microwave; new range hood will be installed Wed.  The granite counters,  new sink and faucet later this week.

The new fireplace insert got installed last week.  We have a gas fireplace, but we replaced the old ceramic log insert with a new fireglass insert...nice and contemporary and lots of "bling" not to mention it puts out a lot more heat.  I'll take a photo of that later this week after the cold front comes through  when we turn it on.

I'm changing out kitchen cabinet hardware and lighting to update the look too.  and I'm doing my own backsplash...design and install!  I'm using a combo of tumbled marble tiles in varying sizes and art glass.  To give you any idea of my planned layout, I'll show you my mock up.

This is the marble I'm using... 1"x1" tiles, 2"x2" tiles, 4"x4" tiles and 2"x4" tiles....  then penny round art glass.  my glass hasn't arrived yet, so I place glass marbles where the art glass will go to give you an idea of the layout.

The actual glass I'm using is this

Pictures of the kitchen reno in a couple weeks when it is done.

Other than painting, adding wood flooring, and new uphostery in the dining room. I'm re-purposing my boring dining room chandelier. Here you can see it as it is now...boring and lots of glare

even with the lights dimmed or out...still not what I want.

Now the room is being painted a soft coral, but that light still needs work. So, I spray painted that shiny silver with a nice hammered bronze finish....much better, but still needs work.

So I bought some linen shades

Which I painted with Turquoise Pearl Ex pigments and a blend of acrylic polymer and fabric medium

I'm adding some bling in the form of crystals...these are just simple acrylic crystals I bought  that were in the Christmas deco aisle at Lowes

better photo of the bling

attached with these cute little magnets that are meant for jewelry closures...I got them at Jo Ann's

I still need to add some crystal trim around the bottom edge of the shades, but I'll show you that when the transformation is complete.

And last, but not least...Bouree has been helping Don with the painting....it took me forever to get all the paint off his paws....

Now, I need to get busy and finish my challenge piece for this month!

Not Good....

I have not been able to access my Gmail account all day.  I keep getting a "temporarily unavailable " error message.

And of course, other than using Google's "report an issue" tool...there is no other way to contact them.  Needless to say, I am NOT a happy camper.

The worst part is not being able to access my email address book....

So, if you usually correspond with my via e-mail, please leave a comment here so I can retrieve your email address.
