Purr Pots

Things have been hectic..mostly due to  house stuff, but I have been working some too.   Some painting on the "Queen"  and working on a new pattern.  This one is a kitty pattern.  And while I was pulling fabrics to make the sample quilt...with Bouree's help of course, the name of the yet unmade quilt from this pattern just popped into my head!  As he was rolling in the fabrics I was pulling, he was purring to beat the band.  Hence the name of the new pattern..........

"Polka Dot Purr Pots"

Below are the photos that inspired the name

He's telling me he likes the blue...

The background that Bouree and all the polka dots are on is Vicki's "Envy" gradient ; I'll be using a full yard for this quilt

I'm sure you've never seen a better assistant than my little "purr pot"  He was the model for several of the kitty poses in the pattern too!

So stay tuned for the finished quilt in the next week or so.

The Whole Piece

By request, here is a photo of the whole piece as it currently stands. It'll give you a better perspective of how the piece as a whole is taking shape as the individual elements are painted.

Still lots more work to do, but it's the kind of work I love!

Coral,Grasses and Fans

The painting continues, but I am nearing the end of the corals, grasses and fans.  Just one sea fan left to do, then it will be on to the rest of the sea critters. Here is the latest progress.

And the last coral...a few shots to show the process of layering the colors

And the beginning of the last feathered sea fan.

Of course, to complete today's  post I leave you with Chloe and Bouree!

Working on more corals and grasses today

With my helper of course, who seems to be sleeping on the job!

It sure is a tough life being a kitty in this household :)

Re-Purposed Texture

Today is the reveal of the Fiberactions Texture Challenge.

Most of my work plays on texture, both visual and tactile. This piece is no different in that regard.
I re- purposed these thread painted flowers from some old silk decorator's samples I had. Simply, I cut them from the original background and appliqued them to my hand dyed silk dupioni. A simple black and white frame; the dragonfly is made from Angelina fibers, and from there it was just a matter of adding additional texture with thread and favorite part!

I originally had planned a lace edging, but in the didn't work for me, so a simple faced finish won out.

I used Quilters Dream Puff batting and Superior's Rainbows thread...color # 816 "Mardi Gras" in the needle and So Fine #418 "it's a Girl" in the bobbin.

Be sure to check out the other pieces by my fellow artist's  on the Fiberactions blog.

And I leave you tonight with Bouree...sleeping under my printer cute and innocent!

Next Section

Last night, we had a wonderful family celebration at Commander's...the food and service was outstanding, as always.

Today I finished up yesterday's corals

And then moved on to the next section

No painting tomorrow..I will be quilting my Fiberactions piece that is due on Thursday.

More progress. I like the golden corals much better now after some more shading.  And  I think after I darken the centers of the purple corals and finish that last piece of finger sponge, I'm going to call this section done!

And last but not least a picture of my helper...not helping so much :)

Now I'm off to Commander's Palace  for a fabulous dinner with family to celebrate my SIL's 70th birthday. My family and I have much to be thankful for.

Sponges & Anemones

I think I finally have the vase sponges the way I want them. Maybe the finger sponges too. I'm almost done with the pink anemones, but still have some work to do on the yellow corals.

Getting there, slowly but surely!

Our latest Fiberactions piece is due next Thursday. The word this time is "Texture"  Easy for me..most of my quilts are loaded with texture, both the visual and tactile variety.

Here is a peek of some of the elements of my piece.

Silk dupioni that I dyed

Lace that I painted with Dye-na-Flow

Some thread work with silk threads

It's almost done, in spite of my little helper here...

Be sure to check back on the 15th for the reveal!

Good Progress and a Gorgeous Day!

Sunny and AC needed!  What a joy that is.  Bouree and Chloe certainly enjoyed being able to go out on the screened porch and see the birds and lizards up close.

And I even got a little work done

Now to enjoy a cool..almost chilly evening!
