Pinks socks and kitties

Lots of thunderstorms around these days, so quilting really slows down.  But the knitting picks up!  I finished the first pink sock

and started on the second

I also got myJuly postcard done for the family exchange

And worked on stitching some applique down and some painting on the fish.  Almost have the background pieced for a pattern to go with another one of Vicki's gradients, so between all that, dealing with house stuff, and playing with kitties I've been keeping busy!

And speaking of kitties, I'll close with some more photos of them.  Bouree is really getting big!

and then Bouree...AKA "Crazy Man"

More Bouree & Chloe

Today I worked a little on the red/black/white quilt, but mostly I spent the day getting the downstairs guest suite ready for  visitors.  One son,Travis (and his sweet Georgina) are coming to visit tomorrow.  It will be a short visit...just until Sunday, but we are just thrilled to have the time with them!

Also, today finishes up my month as Guest Artist at 3 Creative Studios.  It was great fun, and I thank Vicki and Terri for having me.  If you missed it, the link to my techniques and videos can be found on the sidebar to your left.

And of course I have to leave you with the latest kitty photos....

It's a Yarn Day

My friend Yvonne asked me if I'd dye her some sock yarn in red/white and blue.  I agreed and this is what I got in the first attempt.

I like it, Yvonne did too.  But the socks she wants to knit are for a guy...a Boston  Red Sox fan.  Well, I thought that skein was a little bright for a guy, so I decided to try again today and here it is.

A little better don't you think, considering it will be for a guy.

For those who are curious... I used Dharma's acid dyes: Oxblood Red & Sapphire Blue; and added a little True Black to both.  I also decided to speckle the white sections. Here it is all painted and ready to steam.

Drying in the sun

And all twirled up and ready to ship...I really like the speckling...I'm going to do that again with other colors.

And then I finally finished my red sock!  My "helper" Bouree un-knit a section twice for me!   I finally started moving it when I got up...duh!

And I got the toe finished of the second one; hopefully I'll get through this one without so much "help" !

And I also decided to make some pretty stitch markers.  I usually use these rubber/plastic thingy's...and I still will.

But I like to have a totally different looking one to mark the beginning of my round..it helps when I lay the knitting down for a while and then come back to it...I know where I am.  Since I have a bead stash that rivals my stash of fabric, thread and yarn...it was easy to find suitable beads.  These take just a couple minutes to make and are so much prettier than the plastic things.  Just the ticket to mark the start of my rounds.

And for those who tune in for the kitty fix...here's Bouree

And Chloe..as you can tell, it's naptime!

Black,White and Red

Started quilting the new quilt for the guest room today.  But before I show  you that, lets get the daily kitty pictures done :)

Bouree got up from his nap and flopped down beside Chloe..she promptly starts grooming him, which he loves!

Don't they look sweet? And Bouree is really growing fast.

OK, on to the quilt.

I think it'll be perfect in my "grey" room.  I'm putting the motifs in first, using a variety of flower designs that I am creating with the Circle Lord.  I'm using both the large and mini Aztec and Ginkgo templates and a squircle.  I'm just randomly placing the motifs around.

After I get them all quilted in, I'll go back and fill in around them.  I'll do the detail in the applique flowers and leaves as I come to them.

I'm liking it so far and it's going fast, which is a good thing since I want to have it done and on the bed when company arrives the end of next week!

Evidence of Work

It's been stormy here off and on for the last few days.  And hot...OMG is it hot...and humid; like a steam bath.

But in between playing with kitties I have managed to get a little work done.  I needed a new quilt for the guest beds...all of them.  I'm working on one right now...the others will come later.

This is for our downstairs guest suite.  The walls will eventually be a light , cool grey. I have my red, black and white quilt hung in here and we have other black/white/grey artwork for this room.  So I needed a quilt to tie it all together...something simple and graphic, yet that would bring the pop of heat to all that cool neutrality.  This is what I came up with.

and there will be lots of leaves too...I threw a couple down to give you the idea.

I think I'll be ready to load it for quilting  in a day or two, so I can get started between the thunderstorms.

And I even re-covered my ironing board...boy was that overdue!

And for those who tune in for the kitties....

Have a great night and stay cool!

Getting Back to Normal

Or what passes for normal around here these days.   A little painting on the fishes; some appliqué on 3 different works in progress; a little work on Mermaid's Reef; some knitting, and lots of kitty playtime.

Today you get kitty pictures...again! :)

Note...Mom  cleaned my eyes after these photos....but yes they really are that blue!

Tomorrow, I'll share some photos of the work.

Helping???

I was working on my sock last night and was nearly finished with the heel, Bouree was laying on the chaise beside me.  I got up to get a glass of water and during that time I guess Bouree decided he didn't like the way that sock was turning out, so he "helped" me by unraveling the whole sock!!

Lesson: Don't leave knitting with kitten unattended..not even for a minute!

So I started over and now I'm about halfway to the heel.

And after all that work work un-knitting...my "helper" fell asleep.

I really wish this kitty could learn to relax :)  He is so funny, zooming around one minute and totally passed out the next!

Thinking about the next pair of socks, I looked through my yarn stash trying to decide what to do next...assuming I get the red ones done without anymore "help".  I narrowed it down to 4 skeins and wound them into cakes.  Now to decide between them.

Which would you  knit next?
